Manuel Martin-Neira presented an overview of MIRAS instrument performance and status of RFI to conclude that much has been learnt and progressed during the first 20 months of SMOS in orbit. Being MIRAS the first radiometer able of acquire images in a wide field of view, everything related to calibration and data processing has been new and complex. Several issues, due to software errors (e.g. most of land-sea contamination), have in the mean time, been resolved. Additionally, orbital drifts have been mitigated through a 3-coefficient antenna model (pre-launch model had only 2 coefficients). After an initial transient, instrument long-term and orbital drifts are found to be small however seasonal drifts have still to be reduced further.
